NASA’s Ingenuity Mars Helicopter, the 1.8-kilogram and solar-powered small robotic helicopter became the first aircraft in history to make a controlled flight on another planet. The Ingenuity team confirmed the success of the flight after they received data from the helicopter through the Perseverance Mars rover. Ingenuity climbed to its maximum altitude of 3 meters and hovered for 30 seconds then descended to the surface. The duration of this historical fate was 39.1 seconds. It was the first machine from Earth ever to fly on another world.
After the success, NASA Administrator Steve Jurczyk said “Ingenuity is the latest in a long and storied tradition of NASA projects achieving a space exploration goal once thought impossible.” “We don’t know exactly where Ingenuity will lead us, but today’s results indicate the sky – at least on Mars – may not be the limit,” he added.
