Sony has announced a new smallest camera model yet in its Alpha range of full-frame mirrorless cameras. The A7C looks like one of Sony’s APS-C models like the A6400 adopting a more compact body with the electronic viewfinder on the top left corner of the camera’s back panel. Despite the smaller footprint compared to the Sony A7 III it still features a 24.2-megapixel sensor, in-body image stabilization, and 4K video recording. It also supports advanced shooting modes such as S-Log, HLG picture profiles, and real-time eye-autofocus.
The new A7C features a 24.2-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor, in a magnesium alloy body with in-body image stabilization, and has a native ISO range of 100-51,200. It supports burst shooting of up to 10fps. The camera features 693 phase-detection autofocus points with support for Eye Auto Focus for both humans and animals. It’s capable of 4K/30fps (8-bit only) or 1080p/120fps video, both at up to 100Mbps. The body has USB-C, Wi-Fi, and a vari-angle 3-inch 921K dot touchscreen LCD. The camera is available in two color options – Silver & Black.
The Sony A7C measures 124.0mm x 71.1mm x 59.7mm and weighs about 509g. It is equipped with NP-FZ100 high-capacity battery, which promises up to 740 images on one charge when using the LCD display. It has a single SD card slot. With this lightweight camera model, Sony is focusing on making it travel and vlogging-friendly without compromising much on the quality.
Sony has also developed a new kit lens to be paired with the A7C – a 28-60mm f4-5.6 zoom that’s just 45mm long when retracted.
Panasonic Lumix S5 and Nikon Z6 are current market competitors with this Sony model but they are cheaper than the A7C. Sony A7C Body only will cost $1799 and it will cost $2099 with the FE 28-60mm F4-5.6 zoom lens.
