Facebook announces the Oculus Quest 2, starting at $299

In Connect AR/VR event, Facebook announced a new VR headset ‘Quest 2‘ – the updated version of the Oculus Quest headset. The Oculus Quest 2 is a standalone headset that can be connected with a PC via the Oculus link cable. It’s smaller and lighter than its predecessor, with more ergonomic controllers.

The internal configuration also got the upgrade with a Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2, 6GB of RAM, and 1832 x 1920 pixels per eye. The headset will support a 90Hz refresh rate. It also has a lot of accessories, including custom earbuds and an elite head strap with a battery pack and carrying case. 

During the event, Facebook also revealed the new games it’s bringing to the Quest such as Assassin’s Creed , Splinter Cell VR , Myst, VR battle royale game called Population: One, Jurassic World AftermathThe Climb 2, and Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge etc.

The Quest 2 will start shipping on October 13. You can preorder from their official site. A 64GB version is selling for $299, and a 256GB one for $399.

Facebook also announced its first pair of consumer “smart glasses” will be releasing next year in partnership with Ray-Ban though its features are not yet revealed. We can expect those devices to look something like Snap Spectacles or Amazon’s Echo Frames. Facebook also initiated an advanced AR initiative called Project Aria and starting to send Facebook employees out with Aria glasses for testing.
