Huawei’s Honor Play 4 Pro can take your temperature

Huawei’s Honor Play 4 Pro Smartphone integrated an IR temperature sensor into the rear camera block that can measure the surface temperature of people and objects helping to perform fever screening for COVID-19. ArsTechnica said the phone to be the most 2020 phone of 2020.

Huawei demonstrated the working of such features through a video on the Chinese social media site Weibo. You open the app and aim the phone to the forehead, the phone will give the temperature reading. Fever checks aren’t guaranteed to screen the COVID – 19 cases but as the fever is a symptom majority of patients are having, the smartphone will help people to stay aware of their body temperature. The smartphone infrared sensor supports temperatures from -20°C (-4°F) to 100°C (212°F); the normal human body temperature range from 36.5 to 37.5 °C (97.7–99.5 °F). An IR sensor isn’t as accurate as a thermal camera or other medical devices used to measure temperature.

The phone is equipped with a 6.57-inch, 2400×1080 LCD screen, Huawei’s Kirin 990 SoC processor, 8GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, and a 4200mAh battery. It runs Android 10 but doesn’t have Google Play apps and services. The phone costs 2,999 yuan (~$422) and currently available in China only.
