Great Wall Motor has brought its flagship ORA 5 electric SUV to Nepal, pushing into a market where demand for premium electric vehicles has been steadily growing. The Chinese automaker’s local distributor, Vizee Impex, unveiled the vehicle in Kathmandu this week, pricing it between NPR 46.99 lakh and NPR 51.99 lakh depending on the variant.
The ORA 5 competes at the higher end of Nepal’s EV spectrum, and GWM is banking on a strong spec sheet to justify the premium. The SUV claims a 520-kilometre range on a full charge, a figure that would rank it among the longer-range options currently on sale in the country. A 200mm ground clearance makes it reasonably capable on Nepal’s often-uneven road conditions.
Where the vehicle attempts to stand out is in its technology and safety packaging. It carries five-star ratings from both NCAP and Euro NCAP, and comes loaded with more than 25 driver assistance features — among them adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, and traffic sign recognition. A 360-degree surround camera and a 180-degree chassis-view camera round out the driver aids, the latter designed to help navigate obstacles invisible from the seat.
Cabin highlights include a panoramic moonroof, 33 storage compartments, and self-healing paint — a coating that gradually conceals minor surface scratches.
GWM has been expanding the ORA lineup across Asia following traction in China and Thailand, and the Nepal launch appears to be part of that broader regional push.
